Welcome to Pet Sniff - A place for pet lovers

Pet owners continue to sing the praises of their pets. in fact, in a 2006 study 64% of pet owners considered theis pets to be a part of their family.

While dogs are generally considered to be the more involved pet companion cats ownership has also been increasing. For many working families a cat offers the ability to be left alone to celebrate that inpendence that they are known for.

The history of cats goes back nearly 9,000 years to ancient civilizations where they were worshiped and considered to be noble. Always seen as skilled predators they were often relied upon to keep rats and dangerous pests from taking over the living community. In fact, evidences suggests that cats were kept as pets as early as 7,500 BC. Egyptian civilizations so revered cats that anyone convicted of killing a cat was put to death. Cats were even mummified to go with their masters into the afterlife.

When compared to dogs the human bonding with cats is rather recent. Mankind appears to have worked with dogs over 20,000 years ago for hunting. Cave paintings and other pieces of archeological evidence suggests that dogs and human beings starting living together in conjunction with mankinds social evolution into larger social communities.

Hunter-gatherer tribes used dogs to assist with hunting fowl and small game. Dogs were great at spotting and flushing out game and would be used to chase and exhaust the game so the humans could close in for the final kill.

Today's cats and dogs are domesticated fixtures in manys homes. These beloved pets are truly beloved members of the family.

When selecting a pet there are many breeds to chose from. Selecting the right pet for your family should involve looking at a particular breed and and taking into account the behaviour charactertics of that breed.

Choosing any pet means making a commitment to be a responsible and caring owner. You are accepting the responsibility for another life which will look to you for food, attention, and safety.
